This is what's called a stereoscopic picture. You view it cross-eyed and it looks 3d. It's just the amazing power of the human brain. Read this article about viewing stereoscopic pictures. I think I may run a contest over at *macrophoto on stereoscopic pics. We'll have to see.
Sweet idea.. I was just thinking today how a lot of photos I've composed in my head don't look nearly as cool in real life because they don't have depth. So maybe a cool project would be to shoot a set of pictures in appropriately skewed perspective, print them on acetate, then view them in something like a viewmaseter (that old orange slide viewer that told disney stories).
